R&D Infrastructure

MCNEX relocated its headquarters to Songdo in 2022 and is operating the Songdo headquarters as a strategic hub for strengthening R&D in the mobile and autonomous driving electronics sectors. MCNEX Tower, built with one basement floor and 13 above-ground floors, has created an environment that generates research synergy for integrated camera solutions, ranging from mobile solutions and automotive electronics solutions to Actuator solutions. Notably, the company has established a comprehensive in-house reliability verification system for parts and products. This system includes environmental durability testers, cross-section analyzers, and various video monitoring systems such as LVDS, NTSC, and Ethernet.

R&D Capabilities

MCNEX has strived to secure excellent R&D talent since 2007, and as of 2024, its dedicated research personnel total 284, accounting for 58% of all employees at the MCNEX headquarters. Through the continuous acquisition of excellent research personnel, MCNEX is pursuing innovative projects—such as responding to new model development for mass production, new technology R&D, and the expansion of technological development into applied product groups—to lay the foundation for market leadership.

Enhancing Technological Competitiveness

MCNEX has successfully localized mobile camera modules that were previously highly dependent on foreign imports. They achieved the development of the world's smallest camera module and the world's first 2MP camera. Furthermore, by developing Korea's first automotive CMOS camera, MCNEX localized CCD cameras previously reliant on overseas imports, thereby leading the way in automotive camera technology.

Leveraging its core technological expertise in micro camera modules, MCNEX is expanding its business beyond mobile and automotive cameras. They are independently developing various products such as dashcam camera modules, USB camera modules, robot camera modules, CCTV camera modules, IP cameras, 3D camera modules, biometric modules, and golf rangefinders. With technological advancements, MCNEX is also pursuing new ventures in automotive semiconductor multi-chip packages (PKG) and video semiconductor PKG fields to meet the demand for high-performance AI semiconductors, planning for continuous growth in revenue and profitability.

For smartphone camera modules, MCNEX is proactively developing and producing ultra-compact, high-resolution, and high-functionality products. This includes 64MP/108MP high-resolution cameras, 20x optical zoom, 10x folded zoom actuators, and multi-camera systems (Dual, Triple, Quad, Penta Camera). In terms of automotive components, they are developing and producing SVM (Surround View Monitoring) systems, front/rear cameras, DSM (Driver State Monitoring) cameras for driver monitoring, and biometric modules. MCNEX is also dedicated to developing sensing cameras and video systems for autonomous driving. As of 2024, MCNEX has acquired a total of 118 patents.
